Caring for our horses is a labour of love, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. From managing feed routines and tack cleaning to training schedules and paddock upkeep, there’s always something demanding our attention.

And that doesn’t include dealing with unexpected vet situations, living through extreme weather events or factoring in the rest of lives either right?!

But what if we gave ourselves permission to do things differently—to simplify, take a breath, and show ourselves a little grace?

Here are 3 gentle permission slips to help you simplify your equine habits while honouring the progress you’ve made so far.

I can make space for more connection with my horse

It’s easy to get caught up in the to-do lists of life AND horse care but your relationship with your horse is more than just the tasks. Give yourself permission to shift your focus from constant maintenance to meaningful moments. A quiet grooming session, a hand-grazing break, or even just sitting with your horse in the pasture can be just as valuable as a structured ride. I call this ‘non demanding time’ and our horses love it!! By simplifying your approach, you create more space for trust, relaxation, and connection.

I don’t have to master everything overnight

Whether you’re working on refining your riding skills or balancing horse care with the rest of life, progress takes time. You don’t have to perfect every skill, memorise every technique, or solve every challenge today. Give yourself permission to take things one step at a time—just like you would with your horse. Small, consistent efforts lead to big changes over time. I think it’s very important to remember from where you have come and all that you’ve achieved along the way to now!

I will be gentle with myself as I let go of old habits

Sometimes, simplifying means letting go—of outdated routines, excess tack, unrealistic expectations, or even the pressure to always be productive in the saddle. It’s okay to change course if something no longer serves you or your horse. Maybe you let go of the pressure to ride 4-5 days a week, or you realise you don’t need that extra set of boots collecting dust in the tack room. Decluttering your habits and your space can make room for more joy, ease, and freedom in your time with horses.

A JOURNEY. NOT A RACE.

Horses teach us patience, presence, and the value of small, steady steps. As you simplify your equine habits, remember that grace is just as important as progress. Take a deep breath, embrace what truly matters, and give yourself permission to enjoy the ride.

And remember why you commenced this journey with your horse in the first place.

With love and blessings,

Hiddyx😘
