Whether in the counselling room or quietly standing in the field beside a horse, our focus is on creating space for emotional regulation, connection, self-awareness and meaningful, sustainable growth.

Sometimes the most meaningful conversations happen without a single word being spoken.

Hi there!

We are Hiddy (Hayley) and Mac (Steve), and together we run Hiddy and Co, in beautiful Crystal Creek, NSW.

What began as a small seed of an idea in 2019— to create a calm, welcoming space where people and horses could simply be — has grown into something we’re deeply grateful to share.

Between us, we bring a blend of lived experience, formal qualifications, and a whole lot of heart. Our backgrounds include a Bachelor of Education, Bachelor of Business, Diploma of Counselling, and Equestrian Australia Level 1 Rider Coaching accreditation — alongside decades spent in primary school teaching, global tech, wellness, horsemanship, farm life, and community.

We’re country folk at heart — grounded, practical, and happiest with our horses or when the kettle’s on. And that’s the essence of our space: calm, gentle, supportive, and real.

For me, (Hiddy!) this work brings together professional counselling, decades of experience with horses and the lived experience that comes with navigating a few of life’s big transitions myself.

Today, much of my work centres around something very close to my heart supporting women through life’s transitions and seasons of becoming. Sometimes that happens through conversation. Sometimes through the quiet presence of a horse. And sometimes it’s a little of both.

Based in Crystal Creek, our Equine Therapy Murwillumbah and Equine Assisted Therapy Tweed sessions support clients from Murwillumbah, the Tweed Valley and across the Northern Rivers, with counselling also available online. Thank you for being here. You’re welcome — exactly as you are.

What is Equine Therapy?AN EXPERIENTIAL APPROACH

“It's not always about the words. Equine Assisted Therapy is an experiential approach that brings together professional therapeutic support and interaction with horses.”

At Hiddy & Co, our equine therapy is ground-based — there is no riding involved and absolutely no horse experience is needed. Rather than relying entirely on conversation, working alongside horses gives us another way to explore emotions, relationships, patterns, boundaries and what might be happening within us in the present moment.

SESSIONS MAY INCLUDE:

  • Talking together, observing the herd, grooming, walking alongside a horse or simply spending some quiet time in their presence.
  • There is no expectation to perform. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do it.
  • We meet you exactly where you are.
Why horses? HORSES NOTICE WHAT WORDS SOMETIMES MISS

“Horses are incredibly sensitive, perceptive animals. They don't judge. They don't interrupt.”

As prey animals, they are naturally attuned to their environment and responsive to subtle changes in body language, movement, breathing and intention. They don’t judge. They don’t interrupt. And they don’t need us to have everything figured out.

HORSES SIMPLY RESPOND HONESTLY, INSTINCTIVELY AND IN THE MOMENT.

  • This can gently bring our attention back to what is happening right here, right now — creating opportunities to notice, become curious and reconnect with ourselves.
  • For someone who has spent a long time thinking, analysing, explaining or holding everything together, simply being present alongside a horse can feel very different.
  • Sometimes we don’t need to say more. Sometimes we need space to notice more.
What can  EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY SUPPORT?

“Every person arrives with a different story, so every session looks a little different too.”

We don’t rush the process. Quiet progress. Presence. Connection. Our Equine Assisted Therapy sessions can create space to explore a range of different feelings, emotions and things.

IDEAL FOR:

  • Emotional awareness and regulation
  • Stress, overwhelm and burnout
  • Grief, loss and significant life change
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Personal boundaries
  • Communication and relationships
  • Trust and connection
  • Recognising patterns and responses
  • Finding calm and becoming more present
  • Reconnecting with your own needs
  • Navigating uncertainty and change
  • Recognising strengths and personal resources
  • Building resilience
  • Exploring what comes next
Is Equine Therapy RIGHT FOR ME?

“You might connect with this approach if:”

  • Traditional room-based counselling doesn’t quite feel like you.
  • You find it difficult to put your experiences into words.
  • You feel calmer outdoors or around animals.
  • You’re navigating grief, burnout, overwhelm or significant change.
  • You’re rebuilding confidence or trust in yourself.
  • You’re curious about your patterns, relationships or boundaries.
  • You’re moving through one of life’s transitions.
  • You’re drawn to horses but have little or no horse experience.
  • You’re simply looking for a different, grounded approach to counselling.

You don’t have to be a “horse person”. You don’t need to know what you want to talk about. And you certainly don’t need to have everything figured out before you arrive.

Our horses are part of our team. They’re individuals — each with their own story, personality, preferences and boundaries. Just like us.

Our therapy herd includes Remi, Whiskey and Spirit. Each brings something beautifully different to the Hiddy & Co space.

MEET OUR TEAM

Remi. Whiskey. Spirit.

Remi – Our affectionate, expressive gentleman.

Remi is our beautiful Quarter Horse gelding with plenty of personality. Affectionate and interested in people, he has a wonderfully expressive way of communicating how he feels.

Remi gently invites us to notice connection, communication and the subtleties of how we approach another being. He reminds us that relationships aren’t something we simply do. They’re something we participate in.

Whiskey – Our sensitive soul.

Whiskey is our beautiful Connemara gelding. He can be a little reserved when he first meets someone new. He likes time. He likes trust. And once he feels safe and comfortable, he is incredibly affectionate and connected.

Whiskey’s sensitivity invites patience, observation and the understanding that genuine connection can’t always be hurried. Sometimes the greatest gift we can give another being — or ourselves — is time.

Spirit – Our steady, kind-hearted fella.

Spirit is our gentle Connemara and one of those horses whose quiet presence speaks for itself. Steady, kind and comfortable with who he is, Spirit brings a reassuring presence to our herd.

He reminds us that confidence doesn’t always need to be loud. Sometimes it looks like taking one small step, feeling safe there, and then taking another.

Helping women through life’s transitions and seasons of becoming.

Sometimes we simply need somewhere safe enough to hear ourselves again. There are seasons in life when the person we've been no longer quite fits — but we aren't yet sure who we're becoming.

Relationships change. Children grow. Bodies change. Careers shift. We experience grief and loss. Something ends. Something else begins. And sometimes we simply know that something needs to change, even if we can’t quite name what that is yet.

These are the spaces I’m particularly passionate about walking alongside women through. Not because I have all the answers. But because I understand that becoming isn’t something we need to  rush.

It’s time to stop saying ...

Maybe I’ll feel more like myself when life settles down a bit.

Life doesn’t always settle neatly. Sometimes we’re asked to find our way forward while we’re still right in the middle of change.

At Hiddy & Co, we believe growth doesn’t come from rushing or striving. Sometimes it begins with a conversation. Sometimes it begins by standing quietly beside a horse. Sometimes it simply begins by giving yourself permission to start. Slow down. Breathe deeper. Reconnect.

Whether you’re searching for Equine Therapy in Murwillumbah, Equine Therapy Tweed, counselling or a different approach to traditional therapy, you’re warmly welcome here. Wherever you are in your season, you’re right on time.
